April 2021

Another Bank Holiday weekend already? Yes please, we’ll take that!

We’re hoping that the weather cheers up a bit so we can get out for that most quintessentially British occupation: picnicking. To be honest the weather doesn’t usually stop most of us Brits from driving out somewhere pleasant to take in the views whilst consuming bashed about sausage rolls, but a bit of sunshine does help!

So in optimistic anticipation of a few scattered dry patches, we’ve been thinking about our favourite picnic spots and are delighted to share our top 5 with you today.

1) Coombe Hill

Located between Wendover and Princes Risborough, Coombe Hill has a free National Trust car park and gives you magnificent views over the surrounding area. The only thing to watch for is that it can get a bit busy.

2) Benson Waterfront

If you want a picnic with a difference, head down to Benson Waterfront and hire a day cruiser from AV Boats. Booking in advance is essential, but a couple of hours pootling up the Thames will set you back less than £100 for 2 hours.

3) Abingdon Lock

Stunning meadows surrounding the river and lock, this is an excellent picnic spot.

4) Watlington Hill

With the car park at the top of the hill, stunning views are waiting for you after a few short minutes of walking through the woods so no need to lug your picnic too far! There are plenty of spots to lay out a waterproof blanket, and lots of cover from the winds that can blow across this hill. Bracing but beautiful.

5) Wendover Woods

This place is properly set up to cater for picnickers, with plenty of tables and even barbecues you can use. Once you’ve feasted, you can explore the numerous trails through the woods, grab a takeaway coffee at the cafe or get the adrenaline pumping at Go Ape.

Whatever you get up to this weekend, have fun and stay safe!
