The process of buying a car in 2020

November 2020

In the not too dim and distant past most people would have scoffed at the idea of arranging a meeting over Zoom when there are perfectly good aeroplanes to transport everybody half way across the world.

Prancing around in your front room to Joe Wicks when there are gyms you could go to? What planet are you on… nobody’s going to be interested in that!

Yet here we are, marching towards the end of the most unusual year and all these things are perfectly standard behaviour.

One other thing that nobody could have predicted is the overwhelming move to purchasing a car through ‘Click and Collect’.

I have to admit, I would never have seen that coming. But across our industry from high end luxury car dealerships to private sales and everything in between this is how we and our customers have adapted to the shifting landscapes of 2020.

It’s been a rollercoaster ride here at Thame Cars for the last 7 months but it’s been a thrill to see the agility and innovation in our team.

They have come up with solutions that enable us to continue serving our customers, and I have no doubt that our Click and Collect service will continue to be a part of our business long after talk of Covid has stopped dominating the headlines.

Here’s how the process works.

Once you have decided it’s time to start looking for your next car, go to this page on our website that will show you what we currently have in stock.

You may not know just yet exactly what you’re looking for, but once you’ve seen one or two possibilities it’s time to arrange a call with one of our sales advisors.

You can pay a £99 refundable deposit to secure a vehicle and one of our team will call you up to discuss your specific requirements.

For any of the cars you are particularly interested in, we can live video call to ‘tour’ the vehicle, and where you can ask more questions about specific aspects of the vehicle.

You can pick a finance quote and apply online with an instant response, and if you have a part exchange you can include that too.

Or contact us and we will assist you over the phone so everything is taken care of from the comfort of your own home.

Once you have made your decision and finance is in place, we will arrange a suitable collection time for you, where the Covid-secure handover will take place outside.

The car itself along with its keys will all be fully sanitised before handover, paperwork and documents left on the passenger seat and our sales representative will remain socially distanced throughout the process.

We know that even with all of this in place some of our customers want peace of mind that they are making the right decision. This is why we have our 14 day return policy in place, which covers you in the event that you change your mind after driving away.

We know that buying a car isn’t quite the same thing as a Zoom meeting at work or yoga class in your living room. It’s a big decision for most people, and we want to do everything we can to ensure confidence in our process.

If you have any further questions about how it works, here’s a video I shot with a few more details or give us a call on 01844390561 and we’ll be happy to talk to you about your options.
