Tea Room Chat Ep 6. Fix it or flog it?
At some point, most drivers face the same dilemma: your car needs a repair, and you’re left wondering whether it’s worth fixing, or whether it’s time to move on and replace it.
In Tea Room Chats Episode 6, Harry and Kev talk through this exact question, and why the “right” answer is different for everyone.
There’s no single correct answer
Deciding whether to repair or replace your car isn’t about being told what to do. It depends on your budget, your confidence in the car, and how long you plan to keep it.
That said, there are a few simple ways to think it through.
Compare repair cost to replacement cost
Harry shares a straightforward rule of thumb: If the cost of the repair would get you into a replacement car, it may be time to consider changing. But if the repair costs are well below what you’d spend replacing the car, fixing it could be the sensible option.
Don’t underestimate what you already know
One thing many people forget is the value of familiarity. If you’ve owned your car for a while, kept it serviced and know its history, that reassurance counts for a lot. Repairing a car you trust can sometimes feel safer than starting again with an unknown replacement.
Think about confidence, not just cost
A car that’s been well looked after and repaired properly can still give years of reliable service. Equally, if ongoing repairs are starting to chip away at your confidence, that’s important too.
Talk it through
Whether you decide to fix or replace, having an open, honest conversation can really help. We’re always happy to talk through options, explain costs clearly and help you weigh things up, without pressure.
Because in the end, the best decision is the one that helps you feel comfortable, confident and in control.
Safe. Simple. Easy.
